talk of masts breaking mid back loop; 100ft horizontal 'flight of the rig dances', big people holding 3.0m's and 'day of the season' comments. Hoping for pics and vid soon... he ventured out on board just to try and grab some footage, but wasn't in the mind set to try and 'sail' it.

I think it was 50+ on the S. side in the morning. It was liquid smoke on that side of the river and had my board and rig tossed over my head multiple times. After about an hour of combat on a 3.2, I bailed due to fatigue. It was fun, but craaaazy. The swell was surreal. |

Ya mon, it was HUGE!! Needed slightly bigger arms. But there was air to spare and smooth, slick swells to glide and ride. And the secret surf spot just east was breaking 4 deep with clean right handers. Those that went to the wall...sorry. Looks like another one today..... this time bringing my big guns (arms that is)... |

It was amazing. Who was the person floating in the middle of the swells snapping photos of the hot shots?? Awesome to see what the best sailors can do in those conditions. I want to see the pics that dude was taking!! |

Yaaa! Awaiting some posted pics.
Sailed two sessions yesterday between Doug's & Rowena. Big smoothies, gynormous gusts. Two screaming sessions. Tried for a third but The River morphed into smoke from shore to shore and held that way for an hour.
The carry to/from the water was more difficult than sailing
Haven't seen anything like it for years. Looks like more today!

So much fun! One of the best days I've ever seen at Doug's. I was on a 3.2 all day and perfect. Wish it did that all the time!

I got to Doug's late, around 5, planning not to sail just take pictures. But when I got there it looked make-able. I decided to rig my (rarely used) 3.2 and go for it. Glad I did; I had the best 3.2 session of my career. It was filled in and I was remarkably under control, most of the time. The guy in the inner tube was taking pictures of Whit Poor, who was looping his brains out. |

Probably the best session of my life, steadiest 2.8 for sure. I enjoyed looking around and watching the young guys with budgets bouncing around the swells like popped corn.
Not even the angry camera guy floating in the Doug's swell zone could dampen my spirits. No apologies from an old guy hunkering down and surf-sailing old gear! |
