From Wikipedia, which Dan obviously didn’t check before hitting SEND: SNIP The DWR prevents the face fabric from becoming wet and thus reducing breathability. However, the DWR is not responsible for the jacket being waterproof. This is a common misconception, so when the face fabric becomes soaked due to an absence of DWR, there is no breathability and the wearer's sweat will cause condensation to form inside the jacket. This may give the appearance that a jacket is leaking when is not, but the DWR is still crucial to the best performance of any membrane-based waterproof. .SNIP

Amazing. For Mike to reply to my post and then claim that he never reads them is perplexing. Whatever.

Since Mike apparently does read them, let me point out that he wrote, "if I get soaked in sweat because I've overdressed (and the fitter we are, the sooner and more we sweat), the moisture evaporates through the Goretex even when I'm in the water cooling off." He then posts the above information that supports my statement that a soaked Gore-Tex surface will cause condensation to form inside the jacket.

Condensation is the conversion of a gas to a liquid. What gas might condense inside a drysuit? Water vapor. Water vapor condensed into liquid is, of course, water. Liquid water cannot pass through a Gore-Tex membrane in either direction, except by osmosis. Liquid water certainly is not evaporating out of a suit at the same time the vapor is condensing against the inside surface of the suit.

Mike the retired engineer should know this. Is this why he "retired" early. Wink

Nice hijack, Mr. Fick...

Once again, you've turned a thread into your personal rant.

Always keep one sorry, dismal, disgusting fact foremost in your mind here: These 18 or so POS I've killfiled are interested only in slamming me at any expense, even if it means misinforming others. I strongly suggest that any time these obvious attack rats dispute any advice, opinions, or facts I offer, you come back to me for clarification rather than assuming they give a damn about anything but "slamming the conservative". It's a (rat)pack thing they do which is banned in responsible moderated forums. The problem here in the iW forums is that the primary moderator has admitted he is a liberal who doesn't like my politics, so decent readers interested in windsurfing pay a heavy price even in these non-political forum threads. Any time you want my clarification on any of my advice these uberliberal children have contradicted, you’ll have to ask me directly; I do not see these “people’s” posts:

Sorry Mike, as a conservative (and proud of it) I too think you're an idiot.

People want to know, how does one join this list?

Since I live in a warmer climate, I've been skipping this thread until today. However, after seeing that windoggie posted last, I got curious and decided to check things out. No big surprise that isobars went off on one of his notorious whiny rants, because he just can't help himself. Nevertheless, what was notable in this rant was his full listing of all the good folks that he hates and claims to have censored. This was an absolute first.

Sorry nwwindsurf that isobars chose your thread to unfold such a bent tirade, but unfortunately it's a rather common occurrence. isobars has a tough time getting along with others. Still though, seems like you were able to leverage some useful information before isobars literally blew a fuse.

Time to get on the water and enjoy your new drysuit. Let us know how it works out.

Yaaawwwwwwwnnnn ... back it up with facts. You have no idea how many hundreds of times -- probably thousands over the years -- we've seen people say my claims of fact are incorrect, with only a very small handful of proofs thereof over the decades, and zero proofs I've ever lied. Unsupported accusations are just bullets fired directly into the accuser's foot. Prove the fallacy of a few of my factual claims and you'll have some credibility.

I've told the group many times what kind of behavior it takes to get booted. It takes a pretty low class of being to make the list; if you make the grade you'll be in poor company. That's why there are laws against the behavior that gets them PLONKed.

Unfortunately, isobars can't be trusted. Even when caught red-handed lying, he'll never admit it. Catching him in a bold lie about Hillary Clinton was the bearing for my eventual censorship. So, his words above are just empty nonsense.
