|

Escape the heat tomorrow (Wed. July 29th) and go to Bob's Beach in Stevenson for the first un-CONTEST of the year. Hopefully this announcement won't curse the awesome East Wind (if you have never sailed an easterly day at Stevenson then you don't know what you are missing...it is the steadiest wind in the Gorge).
This non-event will be:
- un-sponsored
- un-scheduled
- un-offical
- un-believably fun for all who show up!
Bring your freeride, race, freestyle or wave gear...this non-event will be un-discriminatory.
Results will be totally made up and posted on windsport.com!
Complainers can go sit in the heat somewhere. Demos may be available (Casey from Maui Sails and any other brands wanting to demo can turn up).
SPREAD the WORD! But remember that this is not a real event...just a ton of windsurfers descending on one beach for a ripping session.
If the good east winds don't hit then it may not happen...but you can't blame us for trying!
Here is the iWindsurf forecast for Wednesday:
"Central and Eastern Gorge remain very light. Stevenson to Rooster the best bet for any significant wind, hitting some upper teen to possibly low 20 easterlies peaking in the early afternoon. Coast very light to start with bubble of hot air probably keeping most of the wind offshore today. MAY see a late push of NNW flow to mid teens north of Florence."
Cheers,
Pete DeKay

I was at Bob's Beach 9:30 to 2. Lots of sailors and good wind from 9:30 to 11; the wind was lighter after 11, but sailable. The wind exceeded my expectations.

|

The turn out for the un-Contest was amazing (even if most didn't realize they were in it!)...thanks to all.
THE RESULTS:
Best Pro: Rob Warwick
1st Place Mens: Nick Allen
Masters Division Winner: Peter Najim
Women's Slalom: Ingrid Larouche
Men's Slalom: Tyson Poor
Women's Freestyle: Zoe Najim
Combo Discipline Champ: Casey Hauser
(I have to give myself an honourable mention - I was wearing the orange "L" tank top - for achieving my goal of attempting a loop on every Port run across the river...can't wait for the wicked bruise!)
+ many more beat the heat in Stevenson...you all know who you are!
COME BACK TOMORROW IF THE EAST WINDS RETURN!
Cheers,
