1 Never leaf wind to fine wind.
2 Never wait for wind when you have wind.
3 Always rig for what it is, not what you think it will be.
4 Overpowered is fun, under... sucks.
5 Most will tell you it was better yesterday or last week etc. Never let on to when you missed a day.
6 Big sailors should be treated with respect, never say; "My, thats a big fin" or such, or we will laugh at you when you come in saying how over powered you are on your 4.5...
7 Headline I am looking for; Today the upper half of Angel Island blew away in steady 50 mph winds, while, oddly, Treasure Island was only 25 mph.
8 Feel free to correct me or add to the deep thoughts... |

1. When you sail Berkeley, pick a sail at least one size larger than you think you need. Maybe 2 sizes.
2. When you sail Tomales, and the inevitable time to rig down happens, hold on for a few more reaches and rig down two sail sizes. You will end up on that sail sooner or later.
3. Don't go to Tomales in the spring without a sub-4.0 sail and a board to match.
4. Don't give up on Crissy because of the water conditions, just sail a little further until you find the conditions you like.
5. If it's flooding and you're marginally powered at Treasure Island, might be time to come in. |

Bring an extra beer or two. You never know when you're about to make a new friend. |

9 His Lordships should offer discounts to windsurfers for providing the entertainment.
10 His Lordships customer; "mommy, look at the man, he looks like he needs another meter of sail." |

There will never be the "right" time to try the forward loop.
You can do all the prep work, but you still have to get over the fear of just doing it. You will never acquire a big enough skill set to where trying a forward for the first time isn't going to be scary. If you want to learn it, do the prep, and then commit to DOING IT. Sometimes, external motivation can be your friend. I had a long talk w/ a buddy about this, and he threw his first forward the next sesh. I was so proud. You gotta do some prep to make sure that you attempt it the right way, and then you just have to say "f@*# it" and do it. _________________ Kevin Kan

That's true for a lot of things in life, especially so for the forward though!
It's cool when windsurfing analogies lend themselves to life in general eh?!
How about the shove-it? I wanna learn that one wicked bad!! Just say F it and do it?? |

When you get off the water at Crissy and start de-rigging only answer the "what sail size " questions with one word answers.
Whenever San Rafael hits 85 degrees, drive straight to the NTower.
and NEVER windsurf at Berkeley, it sucks. |

When sailing on a big flood in a dying wind, never turn around and do one more run to try to get further up wind. Tis better to do the small walk/swim of shame then the big one.

Unless you're a polywog or a mudskipper, don't sail Palo Alto under 4ft tide!! (big yuck). |
