All right, I have someone who knows what they are doing build a frame to a level just above the wheel wells and then put some sort of board across it. There is a cabinet maker who stays at the sign at Rio, who lives where I live in Sparks, guess I'll contact him about it. Thanks, that was very helpful as; 'I Know Nothing' in the words of Schultz.

Does anyone know of a map that sites these places; Access, Powerlines, Baha? I was out there for the first time yesterday, had a ball, saw powerlines all over, camping here and there, some sandbags to the water. A map would really help.

first thing you come to is powerlines; large power lines overhead, self contained campers, Famous Barn across the water.

Next is upper powerlines; turnout on left, access opposite, only used when crowded, only about 100 yards farther than PL.

Next is the colony-houses on left, down the hill, used to be more a place for windsurfers to stay, not so much anymore.

Next is Rio Viento Resort, very much inplay for windsurfers with large RV's.

Next is The Sign, but I noticed there is no sign anymore out over the water, run by Rio Vista windsurf association; Now RV WIND Assoc. Parking on left down the hill through the gate, day use on left, Rv parking on right. Permanent structures for windsurf storage and viewing areas etc most organized area.

Keep going, go down hill, rough area to right up the hill is Baja; kiters launch.

The Next opening through the gate is the access. Park at end, portable bathroom there this year-yippie! Rig below, launch over the little hill.

Finally Sherman Island County Park. Day use area first-pay 5 bucks. launch is beach referred to as the playpen.

Farther in is Rv parking-get overnight pass, park on left and right. Farther parking and launch is Kiter area including the big parking lot. First launch through bushes is windsurfers launch, farther launch is Kite launch..

That's it, can go no farther.

Regarding beallmd's comments about spots along Sherman Island's levy road, it's my understanding that The Sign is actually just before the Rio Viento site. I might be wrong, but that's my recollection.

Last time I was at the the County Park, the overnight area looked pretty much like a Sudanese refugee camp, but without the charm. There's a crazy rumor going around that the ranger might be sorta kinda enforcing the rules this year, such as the 14-day-in, 30-day-out rule and the no overnight camping in the back (boat launch) parking area rule. What's up?

you can go further than the kite launch area:
its a paved parking lot, which supports overflow parking and camping, at the very end is a boat launch site with small dock. additional permanant outhouse as well.

the 13day rule is in effect as it ALWAYs has been,13days in and 1day out the difference is this year it is being enforced, which in these economic times may not have been a sound decesion.

there were motorhomes campers in the "boat launch area" all during June
