Anyone see the flock of pelicans overhead last Sat. 6/13?

Yes, I've seen them before. Usually after a period of severe thunderstorms. This inland variety of Pelican is pretty common in the intermountain west and can be occassionally blown westward by storms.

I once saw a huge styrofoam block the size of a tennis court floating on the surface as I approached a lake in NM. As I drove closer, I could see the block was "articulated", i.e., it flexed with the passing small swell. I couldn't tell until I got fairly close that it was hundreds of big white birds, and it was much closer yet before they became obvious as pelicans.

They get around.
