Even a big guy like you Bard wouldn't really want to taunt a guy like Schwarzenegger in an untoward manner. The guy could "terminate" anyone, physically, if he wanted to. Just because he aging doesn't mean that he hasn't maintained some "kick ass" potential.

I hope you're right about the position that would kept "certain beach type" state parks open, but frankly, all folks really need to communicate their dissatisfaction with the foolish proposal to close over 220 state parks. I hope that you'll do that, because your real time access to Leo could be at stake here.

Lastly, I hope you truly understand the gravity of California's financial predicament. The neo-conservative crap only goes so far. Republicans have been finding that out lately.

Frankly, I hope that they're a vanishing breed. National species protection for Republicans isn't in the cards, at least in my opinion.

Seriously, what would happen with a closed park? Would it not be "Enter at your own Risk" and no maintenance?. Or "trespassers will be jailed"?

If super stringent cutbacks are really needed, because the Republicans ultimately want to deny Californians the potential use of the State Parks, because they don't think any added taxes should be considered, I would propose that only certain facets of State Park services be temporarily suspended.

If we didnt have millions of illegal immigrants swarming into Cali with their anchor babies and their using up of our social welfare program, maybe we wouldn't be in such a mess and have to even consider raising taxes. The problem's that the cuts are not in the right places and the funding isn't either.

P.S. Mike's right... liberals can't seem to accept the facts...

You folks say you're upset that the government may ban you from your beaches, but until you are willing to face the root causes of your state's imminent bankruptcy -- especially including unconstrained welfare state spending -- head-on, the problems will only get worse. I didn't ... COULDN'T ... politicize the problem, because it IS, inherently, political; I'm absolutely stunned anyone south of San Jose or east of Stockton would think otherwise. Why on earth do you people think CA is losing its most productive individuals and companies in a record-setting, full-fledged stampede? If any of you don't understand that ... which I find impossible to believe ... my stating it apparently IS necessary, and declaring relevant, important, useful facts "inflammatory" is frightening, because it blinds the gullible to finding a solution. As for "unsurprising", I consider that a compliment even though that's not how it was intended; many of my most rewarding career successes were built on sticking to my guns in identifying and/or solving some major problems where others had failed.

Shit, guys ... lose your stupid beach access. If you're more interested in flaming people for stating what should be obvious but apparently isn't than in solving the problem, you are making your own bed. Wake up and fix it or lie in it ... dry.

That ... or state a more realistic source of and solution for the problem, one we've fought with our free-spending governor, too. Politics aren't just for politicians, guys ...they affect every last one of us, as you're starting to see.

Right, a Nuremberg trial for Iraq could be a good start.

I mean we were duped into going into war, a lot of unexplained phenomenon took place in the last 8 years, which cost a lot of lives and a lot of money and a lot of time. 9 Years ago, before Enron; this state was rocking. Then Enron, then GWB years, I think we need a trial to clean the bad blood and bring those responsible to justice.

Come on FredFX, I know you're just a foolish teenager that doesn't know crap about life. I also know that you've haven't a clue how things really are and you really haven't had to make things work over time. Living under your parents wing has given you very little foresight on what it really takes to live in this world, and unfortunately for you, that includes why taxes are necessary and appropriate in society. You need to get a bit of real life experience to pontificate and expect some reasonable respect.

Siding with a neo-conservative hack and tool like isobars is the epitome of outright ignorance. You should be embarrassed.

My God.
You people really DON'T get it, do you?
Sadly, that reinforces in bold caps everything the rest of the world understands from real news, moderate talk radio, even "Beach Patrol" on TruTV, where even life guards, let alone rangers and cops, have the power to CLOSE (see below) beaches. Even Fred, who can't even vote yet IIRC, gets it; learn something from him before your state is completely destroyed.

Economics 1 (WAY before 101): When a government runs into a cash shortfall, it selectively threatens popular services to generate an uproar hiding the REAL problem: excess spending. Raising taxes hurts, not helps.

Parks and Recreation 1: “Enter at your own risk” is an “Advisory Closure”. When a facility, whether it's a bathroom or the ocean, is closed, it is ... how shall we say it so you can understand it? …
C L O S E D.
The military calls it, “Off Limits”. It means what is says on both counts.

Government 1: Your governor is Arnold, not Cheney; your president is Obama, not Bush; this is CA, not Iran; the year is 2009, not 2005; Obama has already committed us and our offspring to more spending than the previous 43 presidents COMBINED and Arnold is apparently trying to match him; and your immediate foes are rampant socialism and political correctness, not Al Qaeda (notice that no one criticized pieprick for dredging up war crimes in this thread.) “I did not know that the rangers were actually part of our police force ” says an awful lot about public awareness.

Current Events 1 (apparently censored in Kahlifornya): 220 CA state parks rely on the $143 million in General Fund revenue (i.e., TAXES), because they cannot support themselves. They are not revenue positive. Even if fees were raised on the OTHER 59 parks which COULD support themselves, the public uproar of economic, racial, nationalistic discrimination would drive your next election, WHICH IS THE REASON THE PARKS ARE THREATENED. This entire, specific scenario is neither new nor unique to CA; it's been going on for millennia globally and for centuries in the U.S. One park on the Columbia River 40 minutes from here was closed ... er, C L O S E D ... after which a "buncha guys", literally, bought it and opened it as a private enterprise.

You guys have GOT to start reading something besides surfing mags and watching something more substantive than MTV and more accurate than GETV (aka NBC/MSNBC, aka the totally owned mouthpiece of Jeffrey Immelt). Fred does, and he’s just a KID .. smart, educated KID. Take a lesson! This is about your future, not just left vs right.

oh...so is IS the Mexicans. I thought it was just corporate loopholes, chickenshit politicians and republicans who want it but don't want to pay for it. Bigotry makes things SO much simpler and easy to understand. Thanks JP!
