I skipped my 6 to 7 morning workout to stuff all the gear in my truck's cab (board and all) for the chance of sailing at Kalmus (OMG-WTF here we go again) right after morning work in Barnstable.

As I got back on the highway at Willow Street, the trees were bent over - It must have been great.

Now on the my other job of making dinner.

Hey Ron, you didn't miss much. I left WD ( blowing 13, but Chapin blowing 29...wtf?..decoupling) Got to Kalmus, rigged 5.2 it was blowing, but very gusty and choppy. It picked up after about an hour, rigged a 4.7 but should have stayed with the 5.2 . Chop was wierd and big holes, I was expecting a better day.

Yes, it was not a good session for me, either. Flaherty describes my take well. However, the other windsurfer with me loved every minute of his TOW. At 190 lbs. , he was sailing with an older 5.4 on an equally as old heavily repaired Screamer. His Garmin wrist watch was giving him readings 29.88 m.p.h. although he kept blasting trying to break the 30 barrier. He was a very funny guy, looked a little like carrying a big grin all afternoon and wearing sunglasses on the water. It was his first session of the year. As to me, I had trouble staying in the straps in the lulls and was pulled over a number of times in the gusts while trying to gain some upwind position. Gerda's recent repairs to my sail held up quite well when I landed on the bottom panels foot first more often than I would like to admit. I would have done better with a bigger board but I left the fins for mine at home. Whatever, it may have been too difficult given the chop. Obviously, it was my skill at the smaller board that was lacking. However, it's rather challenging to gain the most from the next big gust while your in the straps with a tail sinking in the lull. Early season lack of conditioning and practice, the inevitable effects of old age and a debauched life took their toll. At least I had found another reason to quaff a few and watch the sunset.
