I would not last 5 min. at Rowena regardless of what gear I was on--sail or kite. Not a fan of that place, which means more room for everyone else who is, and power to you. |

in the early 90's we would go to rowena before it was a park, because eddy lived up the hill in the pink palace and we'd stay there. I hated rowena for years after, gapers, people just out of the marina (or now the event site). always went to doug's...but now it's just easy to get to.
kinda like celilo hated that place, death chop but easier thar maryhill to get to and of course the wall. can be the windiest place on the river..... |

Yes, I totally agree about the wind there. It's as close to a sure thing as the Gorge delivers. Close too. |

Plenty of company and powered up 3's at Roosevelt that day. Wish I had considered 3-mile; miss the big smooth swell I enjoyed there years ago.

Are the Rocks or McCreedy's launch sites back open on the Washington side?
They closed due to terrorist concerns years ago and we've been launching from OR ever since. Miss the days we could peel off 14 down the hill and launch at the best swell on the river...RIP
Also, what's the staus of T-Birds. Had some great sessions there til o:dark:30. Also closed by the railroad. WTH?? |

Never have launced on the WA side and don't know if they're still accessible; but may head to 3-Mile today? |

The WA side never was a "launch"; it was a trial by rocks, rattlesnakes, brush, and railroad detectives. Now that crossing the tracks is a federal offense (for liability, not terrorism), it (and McCredies, and most of the other spots along the WA side) are history. New signs, new enforcement, expanded exclusion areas, new laws on the books, even chains and steel gates blocking access to sailing and/or rescue access at some spots.
