|
|
Looking for some guidance in which waterproof digital camera to get. We are looking for a Pocket Point & Shoot that repels water, sand (hopefully) and other nasty stuff.
I have seen the Olympus Tuff and the Go Pro video .. I was wondering what what was out there and if anyone else had some guidance for me.
Many Thanks

new Sanyo HD waterproof camcorder ... coming this spring
These will be really slick for filming those epic sessions.
The waterproof model is the DMX-CA9.
The recording format is 720p (1280 x 720) compressed into H.264 format (same as iPod videos but higher resolution).
Has a 5x zoom.

They also have an SD version - DMX-E2.

Sanyo currently has:
Xacti VPC E1
Xacti VPC E2 (newer version of the E1)
And in march they'll have:
CA9 (newer version of the E2)
WH1 (a bit more expensive than the CA9, but has 30x zoom instead of 5x, 3h 20m of battery life, and some other things)
All these are waterproof camcorders

I got the olympus 720SW point and shoot camera
SW for shockproof and waterproof
It is definitely waterproof, but not a very good camera.
noticeable shutter delay
very noisy even at iso 400
the new model, I think it's the 770, may be better |

I have the Olympus SW series, although I noticed on their website that they only offer 1 waterproof camera next year. I've been pretty impressed with the quality of pictures and video for such a small little hand held thing.
My latest video effort can be seen here, shot entirely on the olympus. And if you click around and hit up some of the other posts on the blog you can get an idea for photo quality. Any uncredited, or Anne credited photo was probably shot with the Olympus.
Two thumbs up on the Olympus, from me! |

I have the sw 1030 its 10.1 mega pixels and takes great photos.
I have used it for windsurfing, snorkeling, surfing, in dusty areas, skiing etc. It always gets knocked around keeps going. (just make sure to keep gaskets clean and only open in safe enviroment)
i bought for 400$ last june, saw it for sale at circuit city underliquidation for 250$. I am still hapy with what I paid despite the huge drop in price.
only cons
heavy for a point and shoot and slow shutter lag in between pictures. |
