I thought it was optimistic to plan to sail on Xmas day in LA, but sure enough it turned out to be doable.

Who got to sail today? Raise your hands.

Topanga was good from 12 to 2. Myself and a couple of teabags.

Yep! I sailed Seal Beach somewhere b/w 1:30 to 3:45. There were about 5 or so kites in the water and 3-4 sails... not very many people. Water and air was pretty warm... I was baking in my 5.3 wetsuit.

Wind started out a little bit light for my 4.7 and 84l... was planing, but had to work to get going sometimes. The wind filled in pretty good toward the end of the session.

All in all, it was awesome!

What was Topanga like?

So, this is three years in a row that I've come down for the holidays and gotten wind. Two years ago, I got a good 4.2 sesh at Sunset Beach on 12/27. Then last year, we got a nice sesh at County Line on 12/26. This year was on Xmas... so next year I suppose we'll get wind on Xmas eve Very Happy

Glad you got to sail. County Line was very up and down today. Got going a couple of times with a 6.0, but also spent a lot of time swimming and a lot of time blown off the water. Seal Beach's windgraph looks a lot more pleasant.

Got in another sesh today at Seal Beach. This time the wind was side-off and there were no waves (yesterday's waves were really fun). Wind was lighter on the inside, but strong on the outside. I rigged 4.2 and was pretty happy 75% of the time. 4.7 might have been a better call, but I also would have been OP'd at times.

It's amazing what a sesh like the one at Seal Cristmas day would do to your piece of mind; it took a couple of days to sink in, it was great!
I'm also thinking how many sailors in So Cal can pull port forwards? I have only seen Kevin do it during that day. if you know any, let me know.
I sailed also a 4.7 on a 78 FSW under powered in the beggining but well powered up the rest of the day.
Kevin seems to bring the win with him every year for the last 3 years; let's keep the tradition going! Happy new year to all

Kevin..
Because all your buds are freestylers who want to sail in front of their buds, and the shortest drives are to the bay.
And Wads/Davs can be good more days, but 70 mile one ways and a crowd of 5 is not conducive to having fun for us.
Neither is the 50/50 ratio you get at Palo or Limantour, and the less than 30% at Stinson.
OBSF is onshore wind, onshore wind sailing at best, so just plain hard work for little reward.
Venice, StFrancis, Dunes can be OK direction and even OK swell and bards, but usually quite a bit lighter than Breakwater, so we'd need floatier stuff and bigger sails.
Most of the '80's NorCal wave sailors simply quit. Guys like Murgus, GregM, AndrewL, just indured 10 years of Palo after 5 of Wads, and needed a break.
Even the old OBSF surfers who windsurfed in the waves have all quit, including Joey, Ross, Eddy, you know the old timers......

Hi Laci.
That was one hell of a fun Xmas treat. I was one of the kiteboarders on the small rasta kite and strapless surfboard.. Yeeeehaaaa!! Great time with fun down the line waves. Lets hope for the same present next year.

Hey Traig, I didn't recognise you out there. Sorry about the teabag crack, just kidding.
