Grew up there, with huge holes, I still like it! But the Bar is growing. I learned at the Hook. I sail off the dusty road to this day, and up wind to the real hatchery. The wind is so much better off of wells. Is there plans to dredge at the "Eventsite" or Geek marina? The grass is green at event. The dust is dirty at the Hook, but the Wind is way better!

Let's hope the Event Site doesn't get dredged. I don't think that it is supposed to be a sailing site, just a launch site. The sailing is on the other side of the river, despite the retards that think the Event Site is a jybatoriam. By the way, the people on shore and in the water are being freaked out by the thoughtlessness of those guys, worried about the risk of injury to their children or themselves with the high speed jybing inside. Stop it!
The Event Site is now incredibly user friendly for beginners, intermediates, and families. Let's keep it that way.

Port of Hood River just built a nice new park 100 yards down the road, complete with sandy beach and roped off swimming area. Might be a wiser choice if you want to swim.

It's true, the new park has a great little place for kids to spash around and play in the water.
There is also a really nice way down to the water for windsurfers, although it can be a little crowded once in the water.
Easy place to launch though.

I also gave up on the Event Site, its just too much of a zoo for my nerves but it will be nice again after this weekend. I hope the other park will be used for swimming and kids activities. If you're one of those parents that take your kids to play and swim at a busy windsurf/kite site- here's your sign.

Just to spread the credit around-- the new park was built by the City of Hood River, on land donated by the Port, with grants and funds donated by the entire community (including CGWA-- thanks!). The Port is working on improvements to the path connecting the Hook to the Park to the Event site. City will put in grass and other park improvements this fall and winter. If you have opinions on all this get involved with the Port Rec Committee or the City Park Development Committee-- or you can always give a donation at http://www.hoodriverwaterfront.com/. But you're all right-- no reason for kids to be playing downwind from the sails. Swimming and building sand castles is a lot more fun.

So Mr. Bret: Now that you have alienated the last of your friends, any plans for winter?
We take our families to the marina to enjoy fun and peaceful days, and only negative thing was listening to you there cutting up everyone you know and praising your hero GW. Bad mojo on sunny days.

It's traditionally been called Geek marina or Ghetto, if I have offended someone excuse me. I have had many great times there. I even saved two Tourist's from drowning there out in the channel this July. My point was that the "Sand is building" and the next couple of years the sand is going to spread farther. I was wndering if there was plans to dredge? Are folks going to pay at the eventsite and walk up to the new beach?

Bret, we were looking for you in the Windurfer Of The Year topic forum. You were the hero that saved people then never said anything about it.

Lots of people do tows and brag, but you were hero here cause people really going to drown and then you sail off into sunset. Nominate.
