Hi!
I'm fairly new in the bay area and I'm sailing in Berkeley's marina. I am wondering what equipment do you regularly use in Crissy Fields (My weight is 176lb), and if there's any gear rental closeby.
Thanks,
Nicolas |

This weekend at Crissy it will be a little windier than usual. You would probably want a 4.7 - 5.2 and 75-85 litre wave or freestyle/wave board--maybe smaller if it really cranks up. You *may* be able to demo a board at www.boardsportsschool.com locations (alameda, coyote point). Give them a call and ask first. |

Most sailors your weight sail on 4.7 to 5.2 sq. meter sails and maybe bring a 5.5 or 5.7 sq. meter sail as well. I usually use about an 85 liter volume board, but most of the other sailors use smaller boards. You should be familiar with the effect of the tidal currents (you need bigger gear on an flood current). Especially be aware if you are going out on an ebb and it will turn to flood while you are sailing. Notice I refer to current, not high tide or low tide, which do not necessarily correspond to the maximum currents.
I don't know where you can rent around Crissy. Probably the closest places are near SFO airport (Helm of Sun Valley, etc.) |
