Naaaah ... that's too logical.

OTOH ... it's refreshing to see a windwhiner actually suggest moving. Usually I have to suggest that to people lamenting their lack of wind, and usually my suggestion is scoffed at, as though there aren't plenty of new jobs and new friends available in windy areas.

I thank God and the gods in general every time I look back at the fate I faced when I worked in Wilmington, Delaware: 40 years of corporate life on the east coast. It brings a shudder that runs from my scalp to my toenails every time. Getting drafted in the height of the Viet Nam war was the greatest single external event that ever happened to me, because it got me out of that fate I thought I wanted and changed my life for the better in many ways, ESPECIALLY opening my eyes to the rest of the country.

And how did you parlay that into retiring in your 40's ?
I also got drafted in 1966, spent a year in Vietnam,
and I'm still working.
Yea, Cape Cod, where I sail ain't the Gorge. I do usually
spend one week in Hatteras and two weeks in Maui each year,
to supplement. August is usually summer doldrums.

Stayed in the AF 20 years, got a pension which almost supports my hobby and feeds the dogs, had no kids, lived way within our means (a vital key very few people achieve), and supported my wife's excellent Air Force career.

I've been keeping track of windsurfing conditions on eastern Long Island (maybe two hundred miles from the Cape) since 1993, and this has been the worst June, July, and August during those 15 years. (I did a post about this on my blog: http://www.peconicpuffin.com/the_peconic_puffin/2008/07/2008-summer-windsurfing-what-went-wrong-with-the-wind.html

Just comparing 2008 to 2007, in terms of total windsurfable days (for me 16 knots and up) from June 1 to date (8/12) there were 27 more days sailable last year than this year.

Get yourself a nice drysuit too rusky. There's a ton of sailing to be had in the winter. I probably sail twice as many days from october to march than I do from april to september here on Long Island. And in the winter, I don't go out unless it's 5.3 or better.

Try moving down to the cape. Between Kalmus/ West Denis and the north shore beaches, there is really good sailing to be had. I average about 100 days a year on Long Island with a full time job, wife and 2 kids. I'm sure I could get some more days in living on the cape. Plus if you're into freestyle, there's no better place than lewis bay. It's so easy to pull off tricks there it's like cheating.
