Don't agree a lot of time with posts here but Suba has a valid point.

Why they don't tow you on the spot if you don't have a car registered, no insurance or if you don't have a valid license is insane.

I remember Irish Olan, I know a lot of you know him, works his rear end off, long hours and so on buys himself a nice new car and think it lasted about a week before an illegal immigrant t boned his car, was a total. Believe the other guy had no insurance and the cops didn't arrest him, wouldn't even let Olan take him for a quite discussion Irish style around the corner, he did ask!

I get sick of paying high insurance and non insured and no action is taken. Not sure it's the SFPD, think they are tied by the DA. I saw a bunch of kids with a parking meter key hit 15 meters. Must have stolen $ 500, a felony I believe. There were two of us, got the license plate, willing to witness, nobody would take our report. Cop at the tenderloin station told me DA wouldn't do a thing.

I think we do need a change of leadership in SF. Zero acceptance on a lot of issues. Find you with a gun, stealing, breaking and entering, kiting with flowery shorts, we lock you up for a long time.

Off my soap box.

Capetonian, the images are shocking, but when considered in context, they are not so overwhelming.

South Africans seem crude but practical. It's the mindset of people who have suffered a lot and don't take anything for granted.

Life over there seems kind of raw, which, to some is still preferable than living in our "make believe" society here.

From MSN;

WASHINGTON - Denmark, with its democracy, social equality and peaceful atmosphere, is the happiest country in the world, researchers said on Monday.

Zimbabwe, torn by political and social strife, is the least happy, while the world's richest nation, the United States, ranks 16th....

I didn't think them shocking, funny maybe, sad to the victims definitely, but not shocking.

I would be prepared to stake money on a bet that a greater percentage of South Africans would want to live in this "make believe" society in America than the percentage that wouldn't.

Compared to a large part of the rest of the world America is still paradise (and the Malibu area to my mind is as close to paradise as I can get short of Hawaii, but considering the various issues aired about Hawaii on this board maybe Malibu on a solid south swell with a 20 mph WSW is as good as it gets for me). Suffice it to say I consider myself blessed to live less than 20 miles from Malibu.

We all have different "blinders" and "filters" on.

Windoggie, I'm ready for another Finnish poem. It's like cleansing the palate between bites of potent flavors.

I thought the last one was really beautiful...I couldn't find the author though.
