Try Island Surf and Sail http://www.islandsurf-sail.com/lessons.aspx in LBI. The trip is a bit shorter than Extreme from NYC.

You can also try http://www.bay-head-nj.com/bay-head-windsurfing.shtml
I'm not sure if they still rent windsurfing equipment.

You can also rent on eastern Long Island...contact Windsurfing Hamptons at 631-283-9463.

There was a thread that addressed NYC windsurfers sailing NJ and LI not too far back... http://forums.iwindsurf.com/viewtopic.php?t=12306

If you're interested in sailing Long Island, check out Yahoo's Long Island Windsurfers Group,
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/LongIslandWindsurfer/

as well as this blog about Long Island windsurfing (it's my windsurfing blog, actually):

http://www.peconicpuffin.com

There are quite a few windsurfers in NYC who sail LI and NJ.

Thanks your answer.
Island Surf and Sail only rent beginner gear.
I couldn't reach Bay Head Wind Surfing, the number is disconnected.

Thank you for your answer.
I would love to sail LI and NJ, but I don't own any windsurfing equipment, nor a car. I live in Manhattan...
The thread you mentioned was a thread about storage of gear. I am looking for a place to rent gear.
Windsurfing Hamptons do provide windsurfing rentals. They bring the gear on the beach only during the summer weekends though, and you have to return the equipment by 5pm (!). I would prefer to go sailing when the wind blows, not when everyone goes to the Hamptons for the weekend... Since it takes 3-4 hours to get there I would also prefer to be able to sail until at least 6-7pm. And, if I want to go during the week, on a windy day, I have to carry the gear from the shop to the sailing sites. So I have to rent a cargo van (no roof racks on rental cars), which is more expensive than an economy car.

I say, somebody should start a windsurfing rental shop or truck at Sandy Hook...

If you go through the thread I mentioned, it's as much about where to sail (if not more so) than about gear storage.

It's true that windsurfing near NYC is challenging, given that keeping a car in Manhattan is so expensive.

Good luck to you regardless!
