155L (no snarky remarks: twin fin for shallow conditions), o/p 5.7 but very rewarding water start practice. Rigged down to 5.0, ran out of daylight before I could get things dialed in.
Two others with actual skills were ripping; kiteboarder admitted that "you guys always outrun me." Referring to the two guys with skills. |

| 3-5p in Alameda yesterday, me and 5 kiters. 7.0/135l, mostly planing except for a few long lulls. Pleasant for February... |

| O/p 6.4, down to 5.7, good. Two others were out on 5.1, 4.3. Good water start practice, but my hands went numb and it ebbed too far by the time they thawed. Glad I went out. |

Alameda Sat Feb 23rd, 9:30-11:30a, I'd call it "puffy lulls" 5-20mph, got me planing about 50% of the time (7.0/135l/150lb), felt like lake sailing. Very flat though, due to the short northerly wind fetch, so a few 25+ mph runs despite low wind.
dsgrntl> do you wear gloves? I use some NP open-palm mittens that work very well at keeping my hands thawed, wouldn't go out without them in the winter. |

NickB, I just wear ordinary Dakine ws gloves. No protection against cold. I have some dive gloves that I might try.
Later development: five people were sailing the speed channel at Hart's (by the boat launch) in the afternoon during low tide. One person clocked 40MPH by GPS. I did not sail there, because I need to improve waterstart reliability to not be a hazard in a narrow channel with power boat traffic (including USCG Station Bodega Bay). |

Fantastic day for my first of the year.
Ebb tide, fairly steady NW wind for this time of year
5.5 rigged tight and middle board for me (219#)
Good turnout: Guessing sails as I didn't spent much time asking what others were going to rig... I rigged 5.5 and went out and some were already derigged when I got back.
Bert (4.7), Les (5.8?), Carl (6.0), Hunt(4.9?), Joel (5.0?), Sergi(5.6), Dan (4.5) and a few others I forget their names right now (sorry.)
GPS says I got in 24 miles in 1hr30 minutes plus 10 minutes to walk back in the low tide mud.
Not much better than today for this time of year! _________________ Best Regards

| Tomales 4.0-4.7 depending on #'s. Big smooth swell in the middle. 7-10 windsurfers and almost 1 kiter. |

Just a few of us enjoyed a late Sunday afternoon sleeper session at 3rd Ave. Wind was decent outside of the marker from mid-channel to farside of channel, but not as strong as Saturday. Kind of weird like local sea breeze thermal wind but calendar says it's winter. Al little bit of mudwalk to exit, but not too bad. Looks like it may repeat again today but maybe a touch stronger and with a little more water for exit. Get out and enjoy life! _________________ Carve the face! |
