use the IWS forecasts as a rough guide, but it isn't the gospel... there are a lot of days when absolutely no wind is forecast where places like Candlestick will rip. The Stick gets a nice thermal/sea breeze on certain heat wave days when everything else is shut down.

Friday I had an awesome session but got skunked Sat. (5.0 78L both days). Apparently I was late but word around the lot was the best breeze was short lived. Would have been better on 5.8 100L, flood sucks. Discouraged, I didn't sail Sun and checked out some local spots around lower sunset.
Weather looks a bit strange today but promising. Any local gurus think they know what the wind is going to do. Forecasters seem to always predict wind; I thought we were supposed to be the optimist while they're the realist. |

Berk Tuesday....
Since I missed Monday, thought I'd bang my head against the wall. 6.5 and 90 barely got me any planing, from 5-5:45.

A nice sea breeze punctuated by pungent wisps of totally nasty landfill funk.

| Berkeley at 4:15, wind SSW shifting to WSW, kinda ramped up as we all rig 5.8's. Pretty powered, gusts maybe in the 30's, some fast jibes (slow long, but moving fast), then a calm down to mellow 25 in the gusts. Seemed to last well past 7.

Here's a thing I wrote a couple years ago about a trip to "The Stick":
Let me pause here a moment to tell you about the parking lot at Candlestick. As we pull in, I notice that the windsurfers are all parking along the road instead of in the lot. I remembered parking in the lot last time I was there, so we head for the entrance. Meanwhile an old Monte Carlo is jamming through the lot parallel to us at about 65mph, pretty alarming, but I figure he's leaving, no problem. Where we park there's a beer party at a picnic table, involving 6 or 8 seedy-looking dudes shouting and throwing stuff at a nearby trash can, some guys trying to jump-start some P.O.S. car, and other miscellaneous persons of questionable character. We hop out to use the restroom, and I'm furiously pushing the alarm button on my keychain, to make sure these guys all know it's alarmed. Meanwhile, the "brothers" parked next to me roll down their window 3" and offer to sell me some crack. "No thanks!!" I say cheerfully, so they won't shoot me as a cop. We use the restrooms and haul ass back to the street side parking, glad to be alive

| Re Spennie's Stick-exp; never thought about it just parked along the road-just instinct I guess.

Last time I sailed Candlestick, maybe 1984, same story with the boyz in the hood.
I parked along the road, got flak from CHP, but they didn't know what to do with a windsurfer wanting to avoid the boyz, so didn't ticket me. There was a time, just after that, when it was illegal to ever park along the road.
