Does anyone know the average temperature of Lake Champlain in mid-June? Is it doable with a shorty?
mid-june the water should be in the high 50 mid 60... I usally do not sail in a shorty till late july/aug but I'm a whimp |
It also depends where you sail. A shallow spot like sandbar can get warm very quickly and be sailable with a shorty with a few hot days. |

You could try http://www.2-rad.com/ in Montreal, he'll have it delivered to your door. But I would hesitate about buying a suit over the web, you really got to try it on before you make your choice. One size from one company will fit you like a condom, the other from another co. won't be comfortable at all. There are many many different fits.[/url] |

|
|
im doing a work trip up to the plattsburg area may 20-23...
they said we are staying in plattsburgh.
naturally, since i have met a few plattsburg sailors in cape hatteras over the years,
i am considering bringing some gear incase there is a few good hours while im up there....
i would guess water temps are cold - a 6/5/4 wetsuit is still in order?
full gloves and boots?
is there any website or forum that members use to meet up at beach launches, etc ?
thanks for any info, hopefully we get lucky and see some wind while im visiting your area.. |

The Adirondack Boardsailing Club has put together a nice launch finder. Go to: http://www.abcsail.org/siteguide/siteguide_frame.html and then go to the left sidebar to click on the Eastern NY or VT hyperlink for launches.
(hyperlinks are in bold color)
Alternatively, the Quebecois, who also frequent the North Country, also have a nice website describing in-depth the launches. Go to: http://www.flipperdesign.com/Sites_planche/sites_de_planche_frm.htm and then scroll down on the left sidebar for the Champlain launches. It was put together by a windsurfing enthusiast who has since passed away. This site also provides nice photos of the launches and you can use Google Translate to translate text into English. Merely cut French text from the website and paste it into the left box of Google translator and the English translation will appear in the right box. This website has a wealth of information, and the Google translator is simple and easy to use.
Good luck! |
