I sail out of TI all the time. I usually launch from the Sailing center and then sail around the corner toward the north side where theres more breeze. The only problem is you have to sail on a board that you can flogg pretty good on. Not a bad place to launch plus you can rinse your gear. |

Today I got a copy of the Navy's clean-up newsletter with an update on the status. They are using the parking area and perimeter road to remediate soil (generally hauling it off-site) from 3 areas. They say that "The Navy ... expects to complete that work (in the last of the 3 areas) and the remainder of the project ... by October 2008.... Access to the areas at the northeast corner of TI, including the boat ramp area, could be affected beyond the October 2008 timeframe, depending on when all of the contaminated soil in bins is transported off the island."
They go on to indicate that should be completed in November and December. It turns out they have completed all clean-up near the boat ramp, but have continued to use the parking area for storing soil. Alas, they didn't try very hard to maintain recreational access. |
