Time for a new harness to replace my old Thermoform. Two years ago I bought a shiny new Pro Limits Team Wave and someone decided to borrow without asking before I even got it wet. So after two years I'm back in the market for a new harness.
After some searching on the net it seems all the nincest looking new stuff is for the kiters. Anybody using a kite harness for windsurfing? I really like that LiquidForce Luxury and Naish Elite harnesses. Is there a reason not to style a kite harness other than the hold down strap in the back? |

Hot sails maui has a wave seat harness. I love it. They are the only people making a wave/seat harness. |

Simmer actually makes a nice waist harness. It has good support but is not super stiff so that you will kill your ribs. You can go to simmerhawaii.com or call Rich if you are in the SF Bay Area. |

Eric,
The spreader bars on kite harnesses have a hook that is deeper and more curved around, making it harder to unhook (good for kiting, bad for windsurfing). But a lot of harnesses and spreader bars are sold separately, so you could get a comfy kite harness and use it with a windsurfing spreader bar, no problem.
Good luck.

There are two differences between kite harnesses and windsurfing harnesses - the spreader bar and the reinforcement. The spreader bar is often (but not always) thicker and hooks around more (harder to get out of).
The Naish harnesses actually come with a spreader bar, but the hook is actually dual-purpose. It is actually slightly hooked under, but not too exaggerated. I use my Naish kite seat harness for sailing my really large sails - no problem. The reinforcement on the kite harness should technically make them last longer.

The kiting harnesses are a bit thicker and designed more to prevent the harness from riding up and bruising your ribs. I've been using a narrow windsufing bar and may try a wider one, but I can't say I have much trouble with it. The handle and stainless ring are the only features that make it obviously a kiting harness. The handle facilitates transport so it isn't a wasted part. Most of the guys that hang in the shop in which I bought it were converts from Windsurfing to Kiting. They use their kiting harnesses for both and would never use a seat for kiting. |

Dakine makes the ones that we have been using ..
Good a point about the spreader bars .. Mine didn't even come with one I just hooked my reactor bar (windsurfing) up and didn't even think twice about it.
The price is usually about $100 or so +/- a little bit ..
bottom line for me it that this set up is by far the most comefortable for me and has allowed me to take some "Next Steps"
