Hi, During the long winter season, I bike Mont tamalpais and Stinson Beach. I am thinking of taking ca cabin there for the summer, and I was wondering how it is to windsurf there ? I usually windsurf Crissy Field on a 75 liter board. Thanks, Jerome

They"ll stop you unless you launch at the North end of the beach.

Some local groups made a deal with park service on this, who knows why, maybe to keep the dopes on ropes away from the public beach.

The wind blows side on to full onshore so can be a beast to get out. It's a beach break so a great place to break a mast easily.

Not a good windsurf beach unless you know what you are doing, could really hurt yourself and nobody there to help you early in the season.

If you are an old coast rookie and desperate go for it, otherwise avoid and save your gear.

There are much better places on the coast and this isn't one of them.

there are quite a few kiters at stinson in the summer. limantour is better for winsurfing, so is dillon. all of them have histories of ocasional shark attacks on swimmers and surfers. just don't miss your jibes on the outside.

I've sailed the North end of Stinson Beach, (near Bolinas) launching from the Seadrift houses. No problem, the whole place for yourself, sideshore winds. Sharky though.

that sounds almost too scary to sail with all these shark threads. I mean what was that some years back about a boogie boarder or surfer getting munched up by a great white out there??

Yeap! 2-3 years ago a surfer was bit by a great white just in front of the last house at Seadrift, near Bolinas. That's the same place I sailed. I remember being paranoid about it but if you think about it, there are more chances a surfer will get attacked than a windsurfer, unless you miss all your jibes!

The tourists on Highway 1 will nail you a lot sooner than whitey.

They're the terrifying ones. Seen them stop on blind corners, get out, take pictures and hang out in the middle of the road. Three point turns on blind corners.

That's where your real fear should be!
