Snow? SNOW? Dood, it's spring. Clear skies, temps in the 50s, wind 40 gusting to 60 at Roosevelt ... Wink

Consumer Reports rated the Sienna a tick above the Odyssey, but admitted the Odyssey is more fun to drive.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Brucie, but aren't you the King of the Enchanted Forest? (Or maybe that's Queen?)

Too bad you say the things you do. I had several good tricks to pass on about removing broken bolts with Easy-outs snapped inside. Broken Easy-outs always occur because some idiot, bonehead, incompetent doofus doesn't know what he's doing and uses the wrong tool. It's a common pattern the tool salesmen at Snap-on, Matco, Mac, and Sears know all about because morons are working under their cars and break the new tool and want a replacement.

Ever heard of Kroil? Ever used oxy-acetylene? Have you tried a left-handed twist drill?

Is the broken bolt in a blind hole or through a threaded flange on, say, a transmission or transfer case?

Whatever -- keep us posted as you continue to blunder your way through and do more and more damage.

Yea, thru the years the Toyota has a better rating, the 99 Honda is the bad 1 with tranny problems, the Honda is supposted to have more interior space, not length just overall. Our 87 Civic CRX has 296K, orginal clutch, engine never apart, runs like a Mercedes.

Not quite spring in Colorado, old man winter just keep on commin back

I recall a thread but didn't find it, but I think it was more for a car or small station wagon.

I plan to cross the USA several times in 08.What I would desire is a unit that would accomadate 3 or more boards and sails booms masts to support those, DO NOT want anything on the roof, but may chnage that to a box to carry sails & masts. Of course a fin box, wetsuits camping gear. Be nice to have a small sleeping area, but could make do with moving some things around to make that work. I can make racks , boxes , to store things, but want easy access to boards and gear.

I think a box van would be best, but dont like the MPG, I remember someone making a AWD van ?
Will a Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna haul this stuff ? The MPG on these or Element are good.
Do the seats remove ?

The Honda Element seems to fit the requirements as well ?

And I dont think that the SUVs get decent MPG, and do the seats remove as well to hold gear inside ?

Stamarev 1 post since 2008 ? ok I will bite

this thread is current and has photos, some to your question.

http://www.iwindsurf.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=25693

the 2003 Chrysler Town & Country had 130K when purchased, it was totaled in April with 182K on the clock. It had routine maintenance , tranny fluid , a water pump, turn signal stalk, the sensors showed twice a vacuum leak, hose replacement, probably averaged 22mph with close to 25 loaded at Western highway speeds, 75+. I removed all the seats behind the front pair , see photos on other thread, for all the gear. It wasn't as sharp in handling as a Toyota, the engine crude in comparison to imports, but then anyone anywhere can fix it and its reasonable for parts. The only thing it could have had was heated seats, I still miss the sunroof.

It was replaced by a 2006 Town & Country, 120K in June. Now with 130K.
has stow and go seats. has a smoother better tranny, power seems the same, but maybe tuned for better MPG, gets 25 on the highway, except mountains, like West Virginia. Over subtle changes, but not much, the stow and go, would be nice, but my seats stay folded, they take no more room inside, the undertray was dropped to accommodate. The interior, , holds a 4X8 plywood , you can vary options for longer boards.

$ to $ IMO its a great value. Toyota since has had the acceleration unexplained issue, will never consider one again. The Honda is great, pricy and expensive to repair. If I wanted to spend the big bucks and keep one till 2020 may look further, their stow and go is not like the Chrysler or Dodge products.

I have a go fast Subaru, and when I feel the need for speed it is it I drive, the T&C is fast enough and handles well, for a mini van

Yeah, it took a while to realize I need a minivan Wink

Thank you for your thorough answer. I am looking at Dodge/Chrysler with stow-n-go seats, looks like I can get them much cheaper than Toyota/Hondas. Looks like I won't miss anything.

What I found in my research, a few years back was the Chrysler products started to get better marks in reliability from '03 on.

The resale suffers some, but the initial outlay is less.

I would not be fussy with 100K on the clock, so long as it doesn't look like its been rode hard and put away wet.

depending on where you live, as in snow driving, the large engine 3.8Liters will have posi traction as standard, this is no substitute for AWD versions but works well within acceptable limits and decent tires

I have had both Caravan and Odyssey and found that the Caravan was
actually more reliable and required less costly maintainence after the 100K mile mark. The hype about Odyssey reliability comes from Consumer Reports and they mostly only survey cars that are in the warranty period and definatly NOT after 100K.
Honda got it's good reputation from the Civic/Accord/CRV which have few problems even up to 200K.
