No, I measured to the drivers seat, not in between the seats.
In between the seats ,yes, a lot longer board can be fitted.
Doesnt appeal to me as a long range transport. _________________ K4 fins

madspaniard :
Thanks, I read these both, I arrangement that Kevin has minus the roof box is pretty much what I want. There are a lot of good thoughts on the google forum that you sent as well.
I will take a look at the Chrysler products as well as the Odyssey again.
Nice to see the marina in Kevs photos.
Thanks a lot !! _________________ K4 fins

I do want it to carry 3 or 4 boards that are 8' long, and have a usable passenger seat, not interested in plowing snow or driving on the beach
At this point I'm about just about ready to look only at cargo vans, the General Motors AWD versions look interesting, Fords seem to be the most popular, I don't see this as a daily vehicle or for use for amost anything else, except windsurfing gear.
should be no problem to change the seats for something more comfortable |
That extra info helps. No serious bed, no serious camping, and no fridge relaxes your space needs considerably. We prefer the camping route because a) schlepping into and out of a motel takes hours and b) I often stay at a good sailing spot for days.
I haven't kept track of Detroit's AWD van offerings since they dropped the Astro/Safari. Be aware that their Astro/Safari AWD system's extra maintenance requirements must be performed faithfully to prevent extremely expensive repairs; that may apply to their Express full-sized AWD van. AWD adds $7k to the sticker price, a lot to pay for a vehicle not to be driven in sand or snow. While AWD adds dramatically to handling in a sporty car driven hard, it does almost nothing for a big van driven sanely, unless driven in sand; my Econoline quickly sank to its axles in the sand at one Gorge launch (Rufus) while lighter adjacent ignored it. And if you buy the cargo version, you get to specify the seats you want, in number, location, and quality. Seats are expensive; no point in buying and storing seats you don't want.

I believe Kevin said he has the passenger seat all the way forward and not reclined plus all his boards are less than 8 feet. The top board is probably the 78L FSW that's 7'9". Maybe Kevin could comment wheather a passenger could sit comfortably with the seat in this configuration. The Odyssey has the same room with the seat forward. A 4ft x 8ft plywood sheet is designed to fit the floor of either van, Sienna too. You can recline the passenger seat all the way on my Odyssey (it reclines flat) and put longer boards in a rack over the seat. Better tie them down good or they'll fly around in a crash or even when stopping quick. |

Carl, did you ever give a thought to Chevy Caprice/Impala SS Wagon ~'94, with LT1 engine trim? Loads of cargo depth, throw in police interceptor suspension and _rip_. Might even get more miles per gallon (15) compared to minivan turbo

It does look very practical, but just think how it would look parked by your house Neighbors might object. |

Hey,, Robbie (the first famous one) was in a magazine article that had photos of many of the celebs and their vehicles. Rob had a nice black 1968 Caddy with the mort package. If his neighbors don't mind then yours shouldn't either!! (maybe ). |
