Come on down to Skaket some time. Off season parking is right in front. I'm not waiting for the water, 9-9:30 should be good enough.

Yeah, I've been meaning to try Skaket for a while, but I'm also looking forward to the small waves at Mayflower/ Chapin. I have the impression that Skaket is mostly flat water. If my son was coming along I would definately try Skaket. He doesn't like waves.

You get forecasts up there? Down on Long Island we only get discussions.

The discussion for this morning suggests that it's windy here too.

How is the discussion looking for the rest of your weekend?

Flat water at first, then the waves build with the tide. It doesn't get as high as Corporation Beach. Bigger than Kalmus, maybe by 30%.

Early morning report - The front hasn't clear here yet

You don't get forecasts on long Island?! How do you survive without forecasts? Everyone up here sets their clocks by the forecasts. It was eerily accurate today. Mayflower was great.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the winds didn't come up as advertised. I sailed at Skaket with a 6.0. I'd only rate it a C+ today. Light wind and too many missed gibes for my taste. That was the only the second time this year that I used my biggest sail.

Did you notice the tide height today, one of the highest of the year.

Yeah, I noticed that the tide came well above the previous high water mark but I thought it was just from the onshore wind and waves.

The wind was pretty strong at Chapin/ Mayflower. I'm surprised that you didn't get the same conditions just down the coast at Skaket. I started and ended on a 5.7 but was on a 4.2 for about 3 to 4 hours in between, with the timing very close to the forecast. You can look at the meter readings for Chapin- 18 to 28 most of the morning and early afternoon. I don't know if there is another meter that is closer to Skaket that reflects what you got there.

I love the sailing this time of year- crisp days, good wind (sometimes), less Cape traffic, warm water!

Yeah I'm surprised at the difference in wind conditions. Maybe around noon I could have used a 5.0, but not that big enough to shift gears.

Maybe I'll make the trip to Mayflower.

I believe that wind can concentrate in local areas. Last week, we were slogging in low 20's at West Dennis, while it was averaging 30 at Kalmus. Mayflower was definitely on Saturday -- though it had ups and downs. I arrived at daybreak, rigged my 13 kite. By the time I launched it, it was gusting to 30. I put it down immediately, rigged my 5.0 Gaastra. Had some rigging issues, and by the time I got on the water, the wind had backed off. I put the kite up again and sailed for an hour, then it got real strong again. That was 11 AM, I brought out the windsurfer and it was SOOOOOOEEET. Had to leave at noon to go coach some soccer, but it was quite a fun morning. Still feeling a little sore.
