Last entry is a still from a day prior. Same set up, 6.2 Aerotech Cuben Phantom and the 11,5 Kona. Good times. Waves were larger and the wind was more sideshore.

My buddy and I got out in waves on the Kona ONE last weekend in 2-8 kts in the Outer Banks. The waves weren't huge or anything, but it was enough to get my adrenaline going and really challenge my nonexistent surfing skills. Pictures (scroll down)-

It was pretty scary trying to finish a tack or jibe on the inside and then build up momentum quickly to get over a looming wave. I got washed a few times, but no disasters.

I definitely need to work on being in the right place at the right time to catch the good waves, and not just piddling towards shore until a smallish one starts pushing me. I think if the wind was stronger I could catch them earlier and get positioned better to go down the line.

The daggerboard was useful for staying up-current on the outside.

Wavesailing doesn't have to be a "bully for me" ego contest. It's all about the fun, right? More time on the water means more skills and fitness for the really epic days. When it's onshore and light, like today, I have to run accross the shoulder to meet the peak at an angle with some momentum. Thanks for putting up your snapshots.

Nice blog. I bookmarked it for future reference. How do you get pictures of everything? The cownose rays, you out paddleboarding, you windsurfing, etc.? Anyway, it makes for colorful reading.

Scooper- Thanks for checking out my blog. To get pictures of myself I give my camera to a friend on the beach. To get pictures of weird things I see, I often steal similar pictures from Google images. That's what I did with the cownose rays.

It is liberating to look out at the conditions at hand, and say, yeah I can make that mush work for me. Takes the doubt of whether I'll hit the water out of the question. Just a matter of how perfect it may be, or become...

I've gotten surprizingly long rides from onshore and small to huge. Every once in a while it gets better and better as the shatty days progress. Or, it's perfect or near perfect to begin... NICE!

Got to try the 10,5 in onshore ugly stuff with a 6.2 sail. It was really good even though the wind was sideon at about 4:30pm when I hit the water. Good times.
