I just got back from 10 days (4.2, 4.7) in Maui.
Paddle surfers were everywhere, seems there are already more of these on the water than windsurfers or kiters.
Saw 'em at Kanaha, at Sprecks, at Ho'okipa, not to mention the mile of a thousand breaks and Kihei etc on the leeward side of the island.
This sport is growing big time. One of the reasons why I suspect is that you don't need any wind or waves, just water, and a bit of chop to make it challenging if you wish. And thats something there is just plenty of, no competition for etc, so it appeals to a broad audience. Including Elektra herself obviously....
There was one absolute babe paddled past me at Sprecks, but unfortunately I didn't have a camera on me (no photos for all your pervs)...I was busy focusing on trying to simultaneously catch the waves and avoid the turtles and reefs, until she came along. Then all thoughts of turtles/reefs disappeared, and I began to wonder about this relatively new sport and its broad and obvious attraction.
Windsurfers and Kiters, do be on the lookout, cos paddle surfers aren't quite as easy to spot as we are, and tend to just suddenly appear out of nowhere. Which is sometimes a very nice surprise (like this time), and other times scares the bejesus out of you as you turn down the line and suddenly there they are...

Saw one get run over at Crissy last weekend. I was watching the formula board race and out of no-where some dude on a paddle board appeared.
One of the fishing boats passed really close to him and the wake knocked him over. He wound up doing a self rescue back to the beach as the water was too choppy to stand.

Here is one of my ex-girlfriend. Since she met me she hates anything to do with watersports.
