One partial solution is returning the poop to the dog owner ... or his car, his tent, his sail, his dog's coat, etc. What doggy wouldn't enjoy having a passerby rub dog poop -- his favorite cologne -- into his shiny coat?

Well said Eileen, but you see you would be asking dog owners to actually care about anything else but themselves or their pet. Good luck-it has only brought me grief at the minefield that is now Crissy Field. I am of course always the "bad guy" for even suggesting people act responsibly with their pets.

The sailing was good yesterday with the supposed bacteria and distinct lack of crowds. So far, I feel ok.

I was at that very spot yesterday, and it was difficult rigging a sail with all the Dog $^it there. You have to be very situationally aware or you sit or step in it. It really is disgusting. I like dogs too, but if I bought my dog I would darn sure police his poop. You shouldn't be letting a dog run around loose without knowing where it is so that's no excuse!

Eileen is right that there are very few places for us day/weekender people anymore, so please grant us at least this small favor.

Golly gee, thanks for reminding me why I don't really miss that place. Sometimes it helps if you have a dream, Eileen. A house at Sprecks maybe? Pretty unlikely for most of us. But some day a small trailer to keep at Rio Viento? Come out and visit on the weekends. Real lawn. Hot showers. Nice people. Dogs leashed. It's within reach.

what about remidie the problem with a proffessional aluminum sign mounted at the entrance and one mounted on the side of the restroom. just need the correct wording and can whip that out and have it installed next weekend. thats a 120.00 value! check out my posting for equipment needed. Red ugly work truck. either way ill make the sign and install it proffesionally with approval. (sure dont want to make and then have to take it down.) it will be made to blend in with the park so i dont think mr. ranger will notice! the sign may be siliconed with 2bl sided tape for the bathroom wall exterior. and the one that is pole mounted will have to be existing pole; so i can pre drill and mount. or even sink a pole and mount. i prefeer keep it simple.

What I've found over time is that there are a percentage of pet owners that are stupid about the responsibilities and obligations of pet ownership, or they simply elect to look the other way. Too many of the latter in my book, judging from the realities that abound almost everywhere.

Places like Chrissy (and an infinite number of others that could be mentioned) are just opportunities for irresponsibile folks to spread a foolish reality. Hey, that's why serious diseases, like cholera continually remain a plague for humanity. While safe realities are so close and realistic, many just don't care enough. Even though I know some are thoughtful and responsible, those that aren't spoil it for everybody.

Eileen,

Nice to see a sister trying to get things done.

I have no business giving my opinion, since I've only sailed the Delta once, but my suggestion is a sign that says "No Dogs Allowed", rather than "Clean up your dog poop".

If people think they're going to get busted for their dog, they'll remove any evidence.

Dogs are banned at Leo Carrillo because it's a State Park. Gosh, we've got a bajillion rocks, but dog poop is way worse...

Shocked

Great post-

The majority of dog owners are responsible for their pets.

Just yesterday (Crissy) while assuming the downhaul position. I lowered my hand into a pile of poo while balancing myself as I sat.

In the Gorge the dog owners are self-policing (that word again). Dogs are not even allowed at various places.

In the case of Crissy- its non-sailing dog owners.
