It's not like we have enough to deal with on the water, but now there are windsurfers and kiters wearing IPODs. I really don't want to risk my safety because someone has to listen to Dave Matthew's Band. [/b] |

Do you talk on the phone while driving? Lots of skiers and boarders use ipods. Try to stay away from them if you can. |

OTOH, I can hear absolutely NADA over the sound of the wind in my helmet and the water in my ears. I don't think an IPod set on 10 would make any difference. If you're yelling at me, better do it in semaphore even if I'm down in the water. I'd try a noise-canceling IPod on the water, but if the wind and swell are good, I'd never notice the music 'cause I'm using all my mental bits to sail.

I met a blind windsurfer last year.
I asked him how he got out of the way of others, and basically he didn't have an answer, other than he 'usually' sails with someone. I gathered that people give way to him...until they don't.
Ipod?
Yeah could be a problem I guess...bunch of times yelling has prevented a collision. But, how loud are they cranking it?
At least they're not blathering on their cells, while driving around in 6000 pound Suburbans (which don't cause global warming...since according to a poster here, we all now know that doesn't exist) |
