Heckscher State Park, LI info

Does anyone have any info, or where to get info, on when Heckscher State Park will open again for wsing? I went down there Sunday (as I am sure alot of people did), all amped up. It was blowing steady 20-25 and the beach was closed due to bacteria in the water. Why does it happen when the wind is finally up?

anyway, I couldn't find anything on the State Park website about the closing. Just wondering if its open again.

The park is said to be open now. I got information by calling the info number (you're right...it would be great if the website posted this stuff!)

thanks for the info. I called them yesterday morning (Tuesday) and they said it was still closed. Hope its really open now, although not much in the way of a forecast for the next few days. I finally got myself a wsing van last wednesday, and have only sailed once since. Guess I should have gone up north to West Neck on Sunday.

anyway, hopefully things will get better, and its giving me time to get stuff organized in the van. I'll have to try some of the other spots that you have highlighted on your site.
