The last 2 days have gone off @ the Fort Fisher Basin , which is south of Wrightsville and Carolina Beach . Good thermal action on the SW winds , 4.7 sailing Wed. 5.7 thur. . Check any weather reports - forecasting and all you will find is 15-20 , 10-15 SW , but when it's clear and hot the Basin is blowing . 2 hours from Raleigh.

It blows side on to the launch site and is shallow so you need to walk out a little ways even at high tide.

Watched a kiter ( breaking the first rule of safety for kiting- don't launch in onshore wind ) as does every kiter that launches there , get slammed into a wooden telephone pole construction sea wall there yesterday. Heard him body slam the wall , his kite was powered up straight down wind bouncing off the ground with his lines running between the pilings pinning him to the wall and as he fought the bar trying to release the chicken loop it was repeatedly pulling him back onto the wall until he got it released. Dude was lucky to walk away . He did pack it in and left the beach , my guess is he was hurtin pretty bad .

Over the past couple years I've launched a kite there 2 times - but I at least walked thru the weeds and down the shore a ways so if something went wrong I'd end up in the weeds and brush instead of a car grill or the sea wall . I'll never launch a kite there again though.
