Hood River is a big deal if you're Canadian or belong to the hippie/granola set. If you've traveled to other windsurfing destinations in the world, you realize Hood River is just big hype. It's a good place for mountain bike riding, or stuff like that, but as a windsurfer, I don't care for chop hopping in murky brown water, while dodging container ships. Been there twice, and have no desire whatsoever to return.

Never been to the Gorge but am curious. It's been hard to justify the trip when I live so close to Sherman and do regular visits home to Hawaii. But now my daughter is going to school just outside of Portland so I think I will have to give it a try. At least I have a reason to go.

really? i guess different strokes for different folks. i love da gorge... and i live in SF and have sailed in Australia, the Caribbean, San Carlos, Maui, etc.. and it is a great place to buy some cool T-shirts! I know Big Winds has some nice ones.
