Those wind turbines and blades are probably headed to the East end of Klickitat County. There are a number of wind farm projects located up North of the river, between Roosevelt and Bickelton. The project being built now is called White Creek. A recently completed wind farm in the same area, and now producing power, is called Big Horn. We will be seeing more turbines and blades traveling along the Gorge. Here is a link with information about Klickitat Counties wind projects.

The Audubon Society has since reversed it's previous anti wind turbine stance and now supports wind turbines due to their help in curbing global warming . . . when the natural gas runs out and we can't use coal anymore because of global warming you'll be thankful we put up those windmills.

Wink, wink.

There are alternative windmill designs (Vertical Axis Wind Turbine VAWT) that kill far fewer birds than even the reduced rpm propeller style (Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine HAWT). They fastest moving part never moves faster than the speed of the wind. They have the added advantage of the very low speed is that they can still operate in very high winds when the propellers have to shut-down.

Personally, I would like to see organizations like Audubon withhold their approval from the propellers, in favor of devices more like these

Too bad that WA and OR don't consider Hydro a renewable energy source.

There's actually hydro wave generators ready to be tested on the Oregon coast soon.
