Make sure you drink a ton of water before sailing. Then drink at least a pint an hour (subject to what pros in training field say.
Even when you are on the beach there is abreeze and more skin exposed: more dehydration.
six hrs a day on the beach equals three quarts of water. Thus try to drink a one gallon milk jug empty from time you get up in am until getting home to campsite. Add more water if youy are drinking coffee=about two cups water to each cup of coffee.
If you drink alcohol,, you also need more water.
Red Bull and similar: You need five cup water to every cup of red bull (source: Red Bull) to maintain hydration.
A test study of those who complain of symptoms should be done with above hydrating regimen. A pro in training field could help with specific hydration levels
In summary, hydration is critical in this environment |

Somebody doesn't wear a dry suit. '-)
At 55, you'll learn to walk a tightrope between hydration and The Yellow Peril.
At 60, you'll quit worrying about it and just count on throwing your neoprene in the (front loading) washing machine more days than not.

yes , but as you age your feeling of thirst is less than when younger.
also if you hydrate correctly, you will experience less fatigue, less kidney stress, and likely less soreness, it is good for you.
check with a trainer or someone who really knows the field |

Yer preachin' to the choir. I don't perceive thirst even when badly dehydrated, and am well aware of the hazards. But filling my bladder several times a session is a major PITA in a dry suit.

Also been sailing the river for nearly 20 years. Never had a problem, but I've had some friends with some ear problems. Don't know if its the river or the disco.

I have been told that when swimming in any water to dry out your ears, use drops for swimmers ear, that should do it for preventative
earplugs recommended for safety and keeping water under sontrol
check docs proplugs website I use them at times

ITS THE STUFF IN THE AIR IN ADDITION TO THE STUFF IN THE WATER.
DOES EVERY ONE SUFFER FROM CRANIAL RECTAL INVERSION?>? THE AIR IS FULL OF SHIT IN THE SPRING PARTICULARLY... PARTICULATE MATTER THAT YOU TAKE IN ON EVERY BREATH NOT JUST WHEN YOU FALL IN THE WATER.... STOP BLAMING THE RIVER FOR ALL OF IT . |

For a natural alternative to pharmaceutical products, try Colloidal Silver nasal sprays to kill infections. It should be available in any health food kinda store. The spray works for any infection, they've got little gel pots too for cuts and stuff. |
