Out here on the Vineyard the forecast is usually lower than what the live wind are or will be, and we get some side shore effects that build often. Fortunately the water is close by to allow for limited disappointment.

Thermal winds are the engine that make it happen at the Seaside NJ area. A predominatly southerly flow can be pumped up with clear skies/sun/cold ocean for bay wind/ warm ocean for ocean wind, no fog bank offshore factors also. The foecast doesn't factor all of the componets for a great day. It's is best to wait and see then go late as later is better than say 2pm.

On 6/28, the "issued" at 7 AM forecast is "on track this morning ..."

But at Kalmus, it's been blowing 25-30 between 6-7 AM while the forecast is for 11-15. No one would ignore the actual conditions, so one gets the impression that the forecast was made earlier, so why not say when the forecast was prepared.

weather is tricky and hard to predict granted...but...when they did away with the 11:30 update it was very disapointing. I suggested they not need to do them every day , but only on the days when wind was predicted above 15 knots . Keep the time consistant at 11:30 with "special" updates as needed before or after that time as well so I know whether or not to take the afternoon off. I've seen very few "special" updates this year and many days when conditions have ended up needing one at 11:30. I've been a member for eighteen years and this issue has been the most annoying for me in Windhotline/IWindsurf history. Yes I check other sources as well and have been used to doing so longer than I've been an I Windsurf member.

FOUR IMPORTNAT THINGS:

1. HAVE GEAR IN YOUR CAR

2. KNOW HOW THE SENSOR READINGS REFLECT THE ACTUAL SAILING SITE

3. FORECASTS, DO NOT GUARANTEE ANYTHING, EVER, THAT INLCUDES REAL ESTATE TRENDS, STOCK TRENDS, OR WEATHER.

4. IF ITS WINDY, GO SAIL.

The whole site used to be much better, views, forums, forecasts.
The price keeps going up, service keeps sliding.
I guess they've learned some lessoons from cell and cable providers:-)
The good news is they don't hide the increases in taxes, fees, and surcharges. I guess that's next Smile
Very Happy
