Thank you to Claude his windsurfing friend (don't know his name) and Robby for giving me a ride back.
3dr Ave yesterday was nuking and flooding I lost most of the air out of my kite and was behind the channel marker. I windsurfer came to help me and got back to shore to check on me with binoculars and made sure I got back. I spent about 45minutes in the water self rescuing. Went under both bridges, almost hit the support pillars. By the time I got on shore I could feel the early stages of hypothermia. I could not control my fingers and got very cold even with my 5/4/3 on. Another 30 minutes and I would have been in serious trouble. Be careful out there, things can go wrong fast. |

Especially on drugs in very cold water. We had an idiot go kiting -- on drugs, we believe -- in air + water temps < 100 degrees combined, virtually alone in big water, with near-zero rescue capability available, in winds ranging from 15 to over 40 mph plus very heavy rain squalls. He lost his board, then his new kite, then watched a barge bear down on his invisible head in the waist-high swell. We almost raised the state's average IQ that day. I'm constantly amazed we don't lose several sailors a year here.
