I'm in Sacramento and want to try a local spot on an epic valley north wind day, instead of going to the delta. Anybody out there know which is the best spot between Folsom Lake, Rancho Seco, or Woodward for the north wind? I've only ever sailed Rancho, I don't know much about the windsurfing at Folsom or Woodward.

Any local info (launch location, conditions) for Folsom Lake or Woodward would be much appreciated.

Thanks.... mark.

Mark,
I also live in Sacramento. Seco is great in the winter because it has the heated shower and grass rigging, as well as warmer water. But in the spring, Folsom can be really good. The lake fills up and warms up so you don't have to worry about freezing.

On north or northwest winds, launch from Folsom Point, formally Dyke Eight, or Browns Ravine which is where the Marina is located. You get to Browns Ravine by going through Eldorado Hills or Folsom Point by going through downtown Folsom. I've sailed both, but I prefer Browns Ravine because it opens up more to the middle of the lake. I like to run to Granite Bay and back. I will be out there on Sunday.

Thanks Coachg for the Folsom information. Unfortunately, I didn't make it out there on Sunday but hopefully the next time there is a north wind blast.

When I was going to school in Sacto I lived in Fair Oaks. Folsom Lake is awesome, its size permits huge runs off the wind. Shocked
