The 3rd ave channel is one of the (when it is blowing) best spots in the Bay Area. 3 to 5 ft breaking swells, jumps and jibbing on wave faces, plenty of room (unlike Waddel break zone). Ok, it has downsides, 1.2 miles out, which can lead to real long sloggs, or worse if you ignore wind dropping, breaking down can be real serious, real low tide has sand bars that provide a different kind of excitement, lots of kiters near shore, a chance to go green by driving at low speeds during the commute or extend your time at the beach leave after 7:00, parking and golf ball challenge. All these things don't even come to mind after a good session. Coyote is good but 3rd has bigger swells.
