I went by windy cove yesterday and there was a fence blocking off the access. Anyone know anything about it or when the launch will be reopened?

Thanks

Yes, Windy Cove has been closed for over a year now due to erosion along the cliff. I have no idea if and when they plan to reopen the site. So for now, we have been using Folsom lake or Rancho Seco for North wind sailing.

JUST past the bridge turn left and park. You can rig at the roadside or down on the breach. There is plenty of room for cars to park and nice sandy beach to launch from even easier than the usual spot(that has been closed). The only problem is you have to swim for about 40 yards to the wind line especially if the wind is well north and/or you have to use a small board.
Don't get too close to the bridge when you launch or sail on flood, you may get sucked away from the sailing area and away from wind. the current at the bridge is pretty strong, it will be hard to fight it. Other than that enjoy the north quadrant, may be next fall though.

Coach,
It may be a little out of the way for you, but have you sailed Woodard lake
on a north wind? If Folsom is good, it would seem Woodard would be good
considering there's no hills around it.

Carl,
Modesto is much farther from Sacramento than Folsom and the north winds tend to be stronger the farther north you go. Folsom's hills are to the east, so the NW wind at Folsom is nice, especially on the south side after it has had a chance to blow 3 miles accross the lake. That also makes for a nice fetch. I would probably drive to the Lake Orville afterbay before Woodard.
