So, I have a family now and am wondering about where the best infant-friendly, advanced sailor launches are.

Renting a house in HR for a few weeks this July with my wife and child -- he'll be about 15 mos and just starting to walk. My wife will be with the boy most of the time we're sailing, though will switch-off. Want to be at a challenging sailing site w/ good swell, but with a fairly hospitable area for the wife and child.

Though grassy & family-friendly, don't want spend most my trip at Event Site or Rowena, with 1/2 my time spent pinching up/down for swell near Hatch or Doug's . . .

Any suggestions that might fit the bill??

-- New Dad

PS Also, are there monthly or week passes for OR & WA fee sites?

Roosevelt is probably your best bet for a combination of family friendliness and good swell. Nice rollers on the Oregon side when it's cranking -- just watch out for the fishing nets. Large park setting. Grassy rigging amongst trees. Swing sets for the liitle one. Swimming area protected from the wind (east of the windsurf beach). Restrooms with cold showers.

It's quite a drive from Hood River, so pay attention to the forecasts before driving out there. You can car-camp in the parking lot if you don't want to drive all the way back to HR.

Other family friendly Gorge launches (defn: grass and decent restrooms):
- Stevenson (Bob's Beach, good in east or west winds)
- The Dalles waterfront park (though wind is kind of iffy here)
- Celilo (very nice park, smallish chop mostly)
- Maryhill Park (also very nice park and you can sail downwind to The Wall)
Enjoy!
