Im sure The Dalles would welcome something like this with open arms, however its not exactly a resort town. Pretty cold in winter.

I wonder if they considered Stevenson / Cascade Locks since its closer to PDX, and theres already resort fascilities to network along side. Whats missing here is the the outdoor activities and riverfront lodging / launching without the RR noise. Western Gorge also gets the east winds in fall/winter, this would be a real plus to keep wind freaks using the resort year-round.

Best location for a resort like this in my opinion would be Wyeth.... not nearly as much rain as Cascade Locks, gets both east winds and west winds, its on I-84 within 45 minutes of PDX and close enough to the other gorge lodges to make it convenient... just need to create a shuttle service. Also, lots of open space to expand.... lots of trees around so it wouldnt create an eye sore.

No surprise, Port of Hood River is totally lame..... nothing will ever get done.... Hood River will remain dust in the wind. Just another place with over-priced ugly condos. Seems the only thing that can be built these days in the Gorge is over-sized casinos that take folks indoors to sit around slot machines to smoke their cancer sticks. The Gorge casino is certainly gonna create a greater distance in lifestyles between the haves and have nots here, just what we dont need!!

Certainly, this concept of a destination resort, the concept of bringing outdoor watersports indoors with the added benefit of locating it in one of the worlds greatest outdoor watersports venues is a good idea for this area. Lets just hope that someone with integrity and honesty (AND the needed resources $$$) can bring it all together.

I read the original proposal and was all in favor. Then I read the HR news, and, surprise, surprise, the HR port commission already poo-pooed it. What a bunch of losers! Who could be against waterslides and wavepools? DO they think theyre gonna fill that space with industrial customers? Give me a break, they couldnt even keep Luhr Jensen, who was already onsite.
Do you think we could just dissolve the port commission with a popular initiative, and annex all the port property back into the City? Talk about a win-win!!!!

And while we are at it, maybe we can change a few things with the Scenic Act. Perhaps abolishing the Gorge Commission is needed to get things managed properly? Also, perhaps Friends of the Gorge can organize some baech clean-ups? Just maybe, perhaps Id be more supportive of things if public relations were a little improved and Gorge Commission actually did what they set out to do.... contribute to enhancing the beauty of the Gorge while encouraging compatible growth within existing urban areas of the Gorge and allowing economic development outside urban areas consistent with resource protection.

Sorry, I just dont see this happening here in the Gorge. Gorge is a real waste of space, with many getto/ trashed out places along the shores of the Columbia River. Scenic Act is a complete and total failure, nobody is working together, instead we have major conflicts between special interest groups.... so NOTHING gets done except for these frickin aberrations.... a casino !!!

I was driving back from the Oregon coast last year, east of Lincoln City if I recall correctly. Out in the middle of nowhere just inland, we hit a flood of traffic that reminded me of any east coast highway at a major holiday: many miles of bumper-to-bumper traffic evidenced by a seemingly endless row of hundreds of taillights ahead of us. We thought maybe wed missed a tsunami warning. After many miles of this we saw the taillights turn to headlights off in the distance and thought maybe wed missed a warning of a volcano eruption in Portland. What else COULD put 30-40 miles of cars bumper to bumper on a remote road on a night in the middle of the week?

When we reached the transition from taillights to headlights, the reason was obvious: a freaking casino. A money-sucking, crime-magnet, night-sky obliterating, sucker-baiting, glaring, eyesore designed for one express purpose: to make the White Eyes pay for their invasion.

OK. Thats fair. I can live with that. If they can find that many stupid white people not only willing but EAGER to throw money at Indians (Ill start calling em native Americans then the BIA becomes the BNAA), more power to em.

But, cmon, guys . . . Not In My Back Yard, please. Last time that happened near me, the town had to double its police force to handle the increase in crime.

Youd think that with the cost of gas these days the suckers would just mail their checks rather than driving all that far to give them the money in person.
