I've camped there. In my early days of windsurfing. We spent a week there and the wind was good. Sailing in the cove is flat and it's easy to get out into Bahia de Concepcion. We sailed about halfway to the other side a few times. Now I probably would go all the way.
Camping is nice unless it's crowded.

Just returned from week in San Quintin. Santa Ana = No Wind. Warm, almost summer. Big waves, easily overhead on glassy ocean. (Surfer mag. rates wave near SQ as secret spot with largest, best formed waves on west, or east, coasts of continent. My fishing friends recognized the spot instantly, but I will keep mag's secret).
Saturday blew about 22 mph, but had to depart.
Maybe you guys have had better luck, but Bahia Concepcion never has dependable wind, that I know (surrounded by the hills in the pics). Beautiful and idyllic though. Punta Chivato, nearby... now you're talking (used to have a rental, but I think it's long gone).
Trouble is those spots are a helluva long drive from la frontera then across the desert at Vizcaino. And the biggest waves are knee high. I'll stick to SQ that I can reach in a few hours instead of a few days. (Even P. San Carlos is a day's drive over a gruelling road, not a weekend jaunt and miserable if you have a family. Best sailing in Baja. Great place to take a neophyte sailing wife if setting up a divorce.). |
