I arrived at Viento 9:00 A.M. today and rigged a 6.0. The sensor was reading 17. Had some fun. The wind dropped at 11:50, had difficulty water starting to come in. The sensor was reading 20. . The wind came up slightly at 12:30, the sensor was reading 21. Had difficulty staying on a plane. The wind dropped at 1:20, the sensor was reading 22. There were no sailors on the water, everybody on the beach staring at the disappearing white caps. The sensor was reading 19.
I think we need to confirm where the sensor is. |

Although it's too late this year (home from the Gorge), for future reference, what is the launch info on Wyeth? I remember seeing the exit several times while driving back and forth..... |

Inside info on Wyeth....
http://windsurf.gorge.net/cgwa/sites/wyeth.html
it's a freakin' hobo jungle, gorge shanty town, a wild crocodile delight. Oregon State Parks promised to develope this mess last year for a windsurfing launch site..... huh, zzzzzzzzzzzzz, no progress yet. If you dare to launch here... good luck.... it's a nightmare.

Seems most wind sensors are a little late to sense rising winds, then are incredibily late to sense dying winds. I guess after you get the ball bearings to roll, they have a kinetic energy and keep rolling the same speed even when the breeze drops 14mph.....
Then again, the Gorge is sensitive to wind directions. Sometimes the winds blow one side, not the other (well, that's pretty normal, eh?). So maybe the winds were hitting the sensor location, which doesn't necessarily correlate to winds at the middle of the river.
Don't forget "winds aloft" as opposed to wind on the water. Sometimes the kiters do quite well, while the windsurfers on the biggest sails and boards just slog around.
Since we can't see it, it's a tough commodity to evaluate. |
