Hi folks.
I'm looking for suggestions for a sailing site near New Haven for some down time between business meetings next week. An intermediate level site would be great, I don't need to risk the job by not getting back on time. I have about five hours total, so an hour's drive each way is possible if it makes a big difference. A few bucks for late day parking doesn't bother me either. Thanks for any help.

I've haerd people are saling at Calf Pasture Beach in East Norwalk, CT. I've been there a few times but never sailed. You may call/email Norwalk Sailing School (http://www.norwalksailingschool.org/) which is directly on the beach.

Lighthouse Point in New haven works. Also, Milford, Hammonassett and farther east Stonington and Ninigret. Stonington and Ninigret will offer the most wind compared to New Haven if it's a Sw'er (typical) but they are 1+ hour drive from New Haven. Generally the more you travel towards New York (West on 95) the less thermal wind you will find. It kicks in best from Hammonasett and gets stronger as one heads East. Cape Cod (Buzzards Bay, Neds, Hyannis, W. Dennis, etc.) will have the most wind. Easily 20-25 in a SW'er while New Haven area might blow 10-15 if that.

Go East young man !

Stoninton's about 45 minutes from New Haven, more with weekend rush hour traffic. The wind's not that reliable here. There's more the further east you go, but the launch site is easy (and free).
