Hi people - I will finally get the chance of going west to the promised land of Oregon. Next week I will be in the Gorge, where I will spend one week windsurfing... I was wondering if you guys had any advice in the following matters:
Where to rent gear
Which car should I rent
Which board is best for the conditions (tricky question...)
Any advice will be appreciated, and yes, I will bring with me a picture of Fogland just to remember where I come from
Pray for wind,
Juan |

Several shops rent gear in the Gorge:
Isthmus - Ezzy sails; RRD & Quatro boards
BigWinds - Neil Pryde & Sailworks sails; Mistral, Naish, JP, and Starboard boards
Windance - Ezzy sails; Goya, and Angulo boards
I'd say BigWinds has the biggest selection, followed by Isthmus, then Windance. All are good and it depends on what kind of gear you want to try.
Typical rental package is three sails and one board. Most popular board size in the Gorge is 80L to 90L freestyle-wave - assuming you are 160lbs to 180lbs and can waterstart and jibe reasonably well. Most common sail sizes are 4.7m, 5.2m and 4.2m. Sometimes it can be 3.7m/3.2m and sometimes 5.7m/6.5m - it really depends on what the wind is doing.
Most of the shops also rent inflatable roof racks so you can throw the boards on your vehicle. Its nice to get an SUV or station wagon if possible. Plan on doing some driving - Hatch/Swell is most windy, but sometimes the wind is good in Stevenson, and sometimes its out east at Dougs, Maryhill, or even Arlington. Each sailing site has its pluses and minuses.
See you on the water!

Hey Juan, how was your trip to the Gorge? I hope you had great wind and sailed your hands off before coming back to the New England doldrums. _________________ http://waterloggedbyscooper.blogspot.com/ |
