Our buddy Mark Estes (of Re-Volvo Volvo repair in White Salmon) passed away at The Wall today. Best guess by those of us there was that it was a heart attack that took him.
Many thanks to Hans, Susan, and Anil and others for their valiant efforts at resuscitation.
It was a most definitely a sad day at the beach.
Condolences go out to his ex-wife, children, current gal, and his friends (and he had many friends).

Was it a sailing related incident, or was it some other health issue that just happend to occur there? |

I can't believe this. Mark has been a good buddy for over a decade, we shared a lot of laughs and good conversations.
I will miss him tremendously.
At least he died with is booties on, living large until the very end.
God bless and god speed!

Just for the record, Mark didn't die sailing, but he did pass with wetsuit on. =) Most likely he had a heart attack, but nobody knows for sure yet. |

It is always so crushing when a person full of life dies in such a way. We are torn between "He died doing what he loved" and "He died too young".
No matter how you look at it, the people that arrive and try to save a friends life, with no regard for their own safety, should be commended.
If I may offer a hard won word of wisdom, please don't let this death darken your love for sailing or The Wall. You did the right thing, don't second guess yourselves or your actions. God moves in mysterious ways. |
