To all my friends (and any of my wind brothers) out there, my wife and I are happy to announce the birth of our new baby girl Katherine Irene Buchanan born 2/26/08. Kate came in at 6 lbs. 5 oz. 20.5 inches. The moment she popped out of mom's tummy our new little bundle of joy immediately placed her right index finger in her mouth, wet it, then thrust her arm skyward to check the wind. It was ripping. So she flashed me a shaka and said "Hey pop - Let's rig!"
It was the proudest moment of my life. |

Brett,
Congratulations and good luck !!!
To all you pessimists, having a child doesn't end your windsurfing. Frequency does drop but it makes it so much more enjoyable when you get out. My son is 16 days old now and I have 3 solid sessions since his birth. Understanding partner is all it takes. |

Responding to the 'don't let her drive until 18' comment...
That won't be a problem. While I already have a 16 year old boy - he's pretty much bullet-proof (excellent grades, no monkey business, etc.). But now that I have a girl I have decided to uproot my family, move to a deserted island with no boys, no internet, no TV, and generally no influence from the outside world whatsoever - except the Dr. Suess series of children's books - and mayby Nancy Drew later.
So, I guess this is farewell. It was nice knowing you all. See you in about twenty years...
P.S. The island will have sufficient year round trades - problem is I haven't found the island that fits my specifications yet... |

By the way - thanks to everyone for the well-wishes...
FYI - I haven't missed a session yet (one that I would have made previously at least). I'm sure that won't last forever - but no matter, the trade off is perhaps the greatest one in the entire history of mankind... |
