Awesome! Thanks so much for the link. Has anyone here had success building their own freeskate? Any special design tips? I suppose I should search the archives before asking too many questions...

The ice is not safe today. The surface is super smooth and supports the weight of a person but new cracks form with that awful soft sound that tells you something is terribly wrong and it's time to get back to land!

Small spots of open water abound. There is an open pressure ridge across the south end. Access to the ice is blocked by open water around the shoreline at all the usual parking places.

The Sun certainly remains quite a bit more powerful than a blow torch. It can melt faster than you think. The iceboats are the fastest and once dominated the surface records. the stand-up sailors can reach the high 50 m.p.h. speeds. The chance of hitting someone like the ones you take with a snowboard are minimal, too. Nothing but wide spaces of ice to ride.
