Brucie, keep climate change in mind. We went from 50 degrees to 10 degrees overnight. Things aren't what they used to be, as every good ensign knows. Wink

Yup, we already have solid ice on lake Q after two nights of solid freezing temperatures, looks sailable. Only a very thin layer of snow is stuck to the ice. It may be hard to generalize about Eastern MA as there's been better ice the more North you go.

I was out on Winnecunnet yesterday. The ice was 8" thick.
It's been one of the rare ponds to remain frozen through all the
funky weather. The wind was light, the ice was pebbled, but I'm
not conplaining. I was testing my homemade freeskate trucks and
blades.

Hopefully this rain won't do anything but level it. Confused
Sat. looks to be another day on the ice...

Interesting pictures. After temps have warmed up, and we received heavy downpouring rains with serious flooding, there's still no safe ice on Cape Cod. In fact after two days of solidly below freezing conditions, there was open water on every body of water, brine or fresh. I realize that one can't generalize about the ice in Ma., but usually I'm rather conservative about it since I grew up along the banks of the Sudbury River. I haven't fallen in yet!!!!

I had to look up Winnecunnet on the map. Nice pictures.

There is a lot of ice on lake Q as well, at least there was before the rain. The rain and freezing nights look like a good combo for clean ice, I'll have to check it out.

Hey Lexflyer
I was out for 4 hours today. It was breathtakingly good.
Smooth and hard, steady wind, not a cloud in the sky and NO ice
fishing!

I used a ladder to get on to the ice and then dragged it out so that
the fishermen couldn't join me... Twisted Evil Had the lake to myself all day.
It was perfect. If another sailor had come along I would have
rebuilt the bridge!

Check out the pictures and video (eventually) from today:

Awesome!

Some nice sailing this morning at Lake Quannapowitt. The ice was softening by noon as the sun came out and the wind began gusting strongly.

Winnecunnet is a word I, too, have to look up on the map although I think I've been there. Thanks for the reports and pictures. After I exit 495 how do I get to a beach or launch? This week could see some freezing temperatures during the day. That would make for good skating. In fact today might be the best. I may drive up there and take my kites if it's windy. Forget about safe ice on the cape, it just won't form this year which is too bad as it's been rather windy lately. Have you ever tried the other big lakes around there? How about the Reservoir out of Lakeville? I know it's posted No Tresspassing, but it looks like no one could bother you about skating or riding on it.
