If you are from Cape Town then there should be no way you like LA more than SF. As for the wind, well, today just gave you an idea of why LA just doesn't compare when it comes to wind.
Enjoy

Andrew,
When you sail Sunset Cliffs, where do you launch from?

Just climb down the rocks at the downwind portion of the beach.
Wind is usually side onshore and less the most other spots, water quality is almost always poor.

Good Luck!

County was a blast on Thursday, Friday and then the best side off port tack with fantastic bowls off of Bombora on Saturday. ... Great downwinders in surf if you know where to go. Absolutely windsurfable. All about the forcast. There is more than the Bay there is what most people forget.

On Thursday and Friday, it was raining cats and dogs in the San Fernando Valley pretty much ALL DAY! How in the hell?.........did you get to have so much time on the water just over the hill, 20-30 minutes away???

Is it possible that wherever you go there is the wind? Laughing Cool In that case you ought to have your own website and forecast. I'd subscribe.

No doubt, SF has much more consistent wind (and if you can get to Waddell or Davenport fantastic wave sailing). Living life is about making the most of what you have at that moment. I live in LA because my family and job are here, so I make the most of living in LA. If I was single and 25 I'd be in Maui.

Ja Capetonian,

As ek vyf en twintig was sal ek op die strand van Zuid Afrika gaan windsurfen (If I were 25 I would windsurf the beaches of S.Africa). I think Jefferies Bay, Port Elizabeth, and Richards Bay give Maui a run for its money (Blaauwberg is too cold for me). When I stayed with my sister in East London, last December, it was 25 mph every day with perfect waves at Nahoon (and nobody riding them). That must be why the European professionals train in S.Africa. You haven't ridden surf until you've ridden Jefferies Bay.

I find northern Baja fair competition, I guess that is why so many serious SF and Gorge sailors make a pilgrimage there every year.
Aangename kennis maat.

Lekker om te praat. Is jy van Oos London?

Die water in Kaapstad is warmer as SF. Ek gebruik altyd n "shortie" waneer ek huis toe gaan.

OK, I'll translate for everybody: The water in Kaapstad is warmer. You can get away with wearing a shortie.
